Community Impact
One question we hear on a somewhat regular basis is, "what has the Tabernacle been used for in the past"?
The Tabernacle was originally created by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) to serve as a community center for the members of the Church. After the City purchased the building following the Teton Dam Flood, it became a gathering place for the entire community.
Traditionally, the Tabernacle has held concerts and musical performances, as well as readings and historical commemorative events.
In 1981, The Museum of Rexburg was established in the basement of the Tabernacle as a place to recognize the local impacts of the Teton Dam Flood as well as celebrate the pioneer history that established Rexburg as a whole. At the close of 2023, the Museum closed it's doors to make for a new vision of the space, which is soon to be an event space to allow for catering capabilities, working in conjunction with the auditorium space above.
The Tabernacle has been and continues to serve as the heart of Rexburg community gatherings. Concerts, recitals, celebrations, dances, rehearsals, graduations, and many more events are regular occurrences to grace the spaces within the building. With this expansion, we also hope to expand our outreach to the community so the impact of the Tabernacle is felt within every nook and cranny of Rexburg, just as it fills the heart at the center of Rexburg.
We hope you enjoy these videos of past Tabernacle performances!
