TLC Progress
Phase 1 of the Tabernacle remodel is complete! Thanks to a significant contribution from the City of Rexburg, the repointing process is now complete! To repoint the Tabernacle, the contractor first needed to clean the stone, remove any damaged mortar (about 10% of all the mortar around the building), and then replace it with new materials. This critical repair was a difference between saving the Tabernacle and condemning the building to time. As of early 2025, the exterior stonework has been detailed and our marvel looks beautiful!
The Tabernacle restoration is now in phase 2, the HVAC system. This includes the heating and cooling elements within the building. The HVAC system is due for replacement. Many who have visited the Tabernacle on a warm day have experienced the discomfort that comes from sitting in the swelter with little relief. Alternatively, the heating system has also offered challenges, as it partially relies on the steam radiators that were originally installed in 1911! The replacement of the HVAC will allow for a much more comfortable environment for all patrons of the space as we move forward.
From our initial quotes for repairs, done in 2023, we have seen a significant cost increase. We remain focused on making repairs, while the cost of time continues to bear its weight.
