NEWS RELEASE FOR THE REXBURG TABERNACLE ORCHESTRA CONCERT, WEDNESDAY MARCH 12, 2025, 7:30 pm in the REXBURG TABERNACLE CIVIC CENTER….. FREE
Even though Rexburg’s season still says winter, DREAMS of SUMMER is the theme of the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra Concert to be presented Wednesday, March 12, 7:30 pm in the Rexburg Tabernacle Civic Center. This program will feature two well-known Romantic composers, Felix Mendelssohn and Hector Berlioz, in Midsummer Night’s Dream and a song cycle, Les Nuits d’ete (Summer Nights), all with themes of love in all its facets.
In the Mendelssohn work, the famous “Wedding March” will be recognized as it is the most ubiquitous single piece of music ever written. It was composed when Mendelsohn was not yet 18 years old and was later expanded to be incidental music for a production of the Shakespearean play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The song cycle, “Summer Nights”, a vocal setting of six pieces, was unfortunately neglected for many years, but recently has been revived and has become one of Berlioz’s most popular works. The tenor soloist for this performance will be Michael Seare, a local talent who is currently pursuing an advanced degree in vocal performance at Michigan State in Lansing. His last solo performance with the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra was in Saints on the Seas in 2022.
Mark Seare, conductor of this all-volunteer community orchestra, is excited for this opportunity to perform in this event with his son, Michael, and says, “The orchestra members have been rehearsing during these cold winter months to prepare a wonderful evening of romantic music to warm hearts”. It is wonderful to be on the stage together with these dedicated orchestra members and my son to share this music.”
The Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra is in its 22nd season and is sponsored by the City of Rexburg Cultural Arts, who are offering this free event for the cultural and educational enrichment of residents of the area. Donations appreciated.
