Over the weekend, a water line in Rexburg on 2nd E ruptured. Crews placed a temporary fix on the line at the time. This afternoon, while attempting to fix the line, a larger issue was found, creating the need for an urgent repair. Those in the area of the break should expect a loss of pressure until the line is fixed, which crews estimate to take approximately 8 hours.
Due to the loss of pressure, a boil order advisory was placed in effect for those who have lost pressure. Please note that the advisory can not be lifted until such time that water pressure returns, has been tested, and adequately determined to be safe. See the Boil Order Below for more information.
Our Public Works Crews request residents to limit water use during the low-pressure period to prevent further contamination and flow of water in the system.
The temporary shelter-in-place notice has been lifted.
Please use this map to see areas that have been affected.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY
- Hierva su agua antes de usarla –
Due to Loss of Pressure
We routinely monitor the conditions in the drinking water distribution system. On April 22, 2025 we experienced a loss of pressure in the upper pressure zone due to a water main break. See attached map of approximate extents of the upper pressure zone. A drop in/loss of water pressure creates conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through backflow, by backpressure, or back-siphonage. As a result, there is an increased chance that the drinking water may contain disease-causing organisms.
What should I do?
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil. Let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
You may continue to use your water to wash your hands using soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Please also use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. (Puede seguir utilizando el agua para lavarse las manos usando jabón y agua por lo menos 20 segundos. Por favor use desinfectante de manos después que contenga por lo menos 60% alcohol.)
Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.
The symptoms above are caused by many types of organisms. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.
What is being done?
The City is actively working to repair the water main break and restore water pressure. Water pressure is expected to be restored by 1:30 a.m. Testing will then be performed to check the water for bacteriological contamination. Results from that testing are expected to be available the afternoon of April 23, 2025. Please turn off sprinkler systems in affected area and do not use water until pressure is restored. The Boil order will remain in effect until a clean water sample is produced.
We will inform you when you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate resolving the problem within 24 hours.
