Today the Trails of Madison County committee submitted an application for a grant to the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. The application is to help extend the trail from Barney Dairy road past the Madison Junior High to North Hill Road. This extension will connect the Hidden Valley and the Mill Hollow residential areas to the existing trails along the Teton River. The application is for $43,540 from the Recreational Trails Program. The City of Rexburg will provide a matching contribution of $23,300.

In the last decade, the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation has provided $200,000 in grants for recreational trails in Rexburg.

The Trails of Madison County Committee meet monthly on the third Thursday of the month at 5:15 PM at the city building. The public is invited and encouraged to attend these meetings. The committee is always looking for input for other projects that community members are interested. Besides the current grant application, the committee is exploring the creation of a dirt bike track for mountain bikes within the city limits.
